Age Discrimination

Employment law issues such as age discrimination can create situations for employers.  The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) provides protection for employees 40 years of age and older from discrimination on the basis of age in employment opportunities such as:

    • Hiring
    • Promotion
    • Discharge
    • Compensation
    • Terms, conditions or privileges of employment.

Further, in the case of Mount Lemmon Fire District v. Guido, the Supreme Court determined that state and local government entities had to abide by the ADEA, regardless of number of employees.

The Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA) protects Colorado employees in additional areas of potential discrimination.
